The 2000 – 2010 decade has been a pretty amazing time for games, and the last three have really fuckin’ brought it. Off the top of my head, it seems like 2010 had fewer hits and big games than 2009, but those games that hit this year hit really hard. Call of Duty: Black Ops isn’t better than Modern Warfare 2, but it is somehow more interesting. Red Dead Redemption was in-fucking-credible. Mass Effect 2 rocked, and yeah, that did come out this year. Halo: Reach, Fallout: New Vegas, Title: Sub-Title, and many other games with interesting punctuation and spelling. I also think that 2010 has been, by far, the best year for downloadable stuff. The reasons for this should be obvious, but I’ll mention the big ones so we’re all on the same page.
- More/better broadband
- Greater install base of hardware
- Mainstream acceptance of downloadable and online content
- Developers better understand systems and gamers
- iPhone & Android apps handed this concept over on a silver platter
With the quality of games that came out in 2010, coupled with the fact that real life has been ripping time from my all important gaming, I have a lot of great gaming that I just haven’t gotten to. Keeping with this trend of listing some stuff, here’s one that’s slightly different from the rest of this week. I’m going to rank the games that I want to play to completion (could be beat the game, could be 100% the achievements), from 10 to 1, by which I am most interested in actually completing.
Top 10 Games I Want to Finish Before Coming Back To Work in 2011:
10. Super Meat Boy
9. Assassin’s Creed II
8. Just one fucking game of Civilization 5
7. Starcraft 2
6. No More Heroes 2
4. Red Dead Redemption DLC – Undead Nightmare
3. Pac-Man Championship Edition DX
2. Fallout: New Vegas
1. Mass Effect 2 DLC – Lair of the Shadow Broker
What do you think? Have anything you want to wrap up before the start of the next business year?
